New Delhi, November 13, 2024: Pristine Heritage is delighted to announce the opening of their art show, ‘The Tathagata: Buddha and His Bodhisattvas,’ at Pristine Gallery. This exceptional exhibition features the stunning work of Zeiko, an unrivalled master Buddhist artist, inviting visitors to explore a realm of deep spiritual reflection. The exhibition opens on 15th November and will be on display until 10th December 2024.
‘The Tathagata: Buddha and His Bodhisattvas’ offers a unique opportunity to witness the ancient art of Bhutanese thangkas reinterpreted through Zeiko’s expert lens. Renowned for his ability to merge centuries-old traditions with modern interpretations, Zeiko’s works showcase the myriad forms of the Buddha, the compassionate goddess Tara, and Guru Rinpoche, the revered figure who brought Buddhism to Bhutan. Thangkas often overflow with symbolism and allusion. Because the art is explicitly religious, all symbols and allusions must be in accordance with the profound mythological narratives laid out in Buddhist scripture.
Each thangka is painstakingly rendered, striking a balance between the ethereal and the tangible, providing a glimpse into both the inner world of contemplation and the outer world of visual beauty.
“With the opening of this new space and the exhibition, Pristine Heritage aims to create an immersive environment that honours the spiritual and cultural depth of Himalayan art,” says Arjun Sawhney, Founder-Director of Gallery Pristine. “Zeiko’s work serves as a gateway to the profound, capturing the timeless allure and wisdom of Buddhist teachings in each intricate detail. We’re thrilled to bring this unique experience to New Delhi and celebrate the enduring resonance of Bhutanese thangka art.”
This exhibition explores a spectrum of colour and technique, utilising vibrant jewel tones that symbolise enlightenment and transcendence, alongside muted earth tones that evoke groundedness and quietude. This deliberate juxtaposition of colour palettes serves as an expression of the vastness of spiritual experience—from the radiance of awakening to the serenity of meditative calm.
More than mere images, thangka artworks are imbued with an energy that transcends their physical forms, acting as conduits for the spiritual power they embody. Each piece is designed to impart an aura of peace, protection, or empowerment to its surroundings, making them not only objects of art but also vessels of faith and devotion.
“Pristine Gallery’s latest show with Zeiko represents not just an artistic presentation but a deeply spiritual experience,” shares Arjun Butani, Founder-Director of Gallery Pristine. “These artworks carry a legacy of centuries, reinterpreted by a master artist for contemporary audiences. We believe this exhibition will inspire viewers to pause, reflect, and connect with the sacred traditions and transformative power that each piece embodies.”
‘The Tathagata: Buddha and His Bodhisattvas’ is an ode to the rich artistic traditions of the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Through intricate embellishments and sacred symbols, this exhibition offers a profound reflection on the transformative power of faith, the nuances of Buddhist iconography, and the timeless beauty of thangka art.
