Pioneers of the abstract art movement like Piet Mondrian believed that ‘line’ is the foundation of all art and that lines had the power to create structure, rhythm, and harmony in a composition. Abstraction often strips artistic expression down to the basics and creates art with the rudiments of line and colour elements that help artists convey the essence of the emotion.

This exhibition posits the function of these abstract ideologies in the art world today, where one deals with the multiplicities of our lives, both ‘virtual’ and ‘real’. We have been introduced to the idea of the multi-verse where things exist and affect each other simultaneously.  To quote an existing definition, “The multi-verse is the hypothetical set of all universes. Together, these universes are presumed to comprise everything that exists: the entirety of space, time, matter, energy, information, and the physical laws and constants that describe them.”

Abstraction has been in the process of touching the multi-verse through the idea of infinity, even before the idea of the multi-verse became popular. The positive mysticism embraced by most abstractionists, simplified the subjects of his paintings down to the most basic elements, to reveal the essence of the ‘mystical energy’ in the balance of forces that governed nature and the universe.

One can employ this through the thought-provoking work of artists who have constantly pushed the realms of abstraction to discover new grounds and newer interpretations of the human imagination. We hope to delve into this exhibition.

The feelings behind the basic motifs, the emotions people feel, and the idea of multi-verse through art are what one hopes to touch through this exploration.
